The Kent brand is part of the Nilfisk-Advance Group, owned by NKT Holding in Denmark. Nilfisk-Advance is among the world's leading suppliers of professional cleaning equipment with manufacturing facilities in Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Italy, Hungary, USA, Singapore and China.

The Kent Company was founded in 1913 in Rome, New York by Gordon Kent after he invented a central vacuuming system. In 1962 Kent merged with Finnell Systems and manufacturing plants were maintained in both New York and Indiana until 1969 when AB Electrolux of Sweden purchased the company. In 1998, Nilfisk-Advance and AB Electrolux of Sweden merged, bringing the Kent brand with them. The Kent brand was reorganized in 2001 and administrative and manufacturing operations were consolidated in Plymouth, Minnesota during 2002.
